[While he had been warned that Hell was prone to fancy events with strict dress codes, Neal hadn't really known what to expect with the ball. If nothing else, at least the aesthetics were up to his standards. He puts on the coat with a gold brocade that fits like a glove and all the other assorted pieces and waltzes his way down to the ball like he belongs there.
But that's, of course, how he handles most things.
Somewhere along the way, after the wine and the food and the dancing, the demons start pulling names to get "married." Neal has zero interest in the game - he's quite happy being single, thank you very much, and he doesn't really know how weddings work in Hell. But that doesn't mean he's completely tuned out, as it doesn't take long for him to catch his name, echoing through the ballroom.]
... Excuse me?
[The demon pays him little mind, and only moves on to pull the second name:
"Zelda Schiff!"
Neal's eyes narrow, before turning until his eyes land on his bride-to-be, at least according to the game.]
( despite everything that had happened to her lately, despite knowing that this place was more than what it seemed on the surface zelda didn't really know what to expect. expecting twists were one thing but predicting what they are?
it's why this party takes her by surprise almost as easily as it's begun, zelda a picture in the outfit they'd left which apparently works well for what's to come. a wedding.
she's confused to say the least, still processing it when he speaks and it takes her a moment )
Are they serious?
( she honestly can't say she's ever thought this would be in her life but that works for many hell things )
[He slowly offers her his arm, glancing around as he tries to gauge what the options are. The demons seem hungry, gauging their reactions, and waiting for the inevitable protest or having been pleased to have been chosen.]
From what I've heard, Barbas was very ... traditional. But there was also a casino with a wedding chapel, so there's more than a few mixed messages there.
[Who knows what they're trying to get out of this. Maybe there's an annulment process that they can dig into later. But right now? Doesn't seem like resisting is worth the effort.]
I guess we'll have to see how this plays out. Maybe it's a game.
( she frowns. she had been the one to say that it likely wouldn't be worth resisting but at the same time, she hadn't expected him to agree so easily, to not try to challenge it at all.
and though she's not thinking about it this is quite possibly one of the least flattering propositions that she's ever had. not that she pays attention to most of them )
It would at least give us more of an idea of what they want -- if it's serious or some other joke.
( she won't ever say game. after the carnival she's had more than enough of games for now )
My name is Aiden Pearce. I noticed you were asking around about a map, a few weeks ago. I was wondering if you'd had any luck.
[this is the most abrupt, blunt text ever, he knows, but -- well, he's a socially awkward turtle on the best of days. he's also in full on I'm The Vigilante mode, what with everything that's happened lately, and that doesn't make him any more endearing]
Anywhere that might be where the Veiled Order's holed up.
[he knows there was that base on the island, coming back from Mammon's -- he was there -- but they have to have something closer, something here. he wants to figure out where, so he can burn it to the ground]
I'm not expecting it to be labeled Secret Cultist Base. I can figure that out, myself. I just need a clearer picture of the landmarks around the hotel.

Do you think it's worth it to resist?

No.
( and it's now that she takes his arm, hand lightly resting on it )
They'd likely kidnap us to get their way. Though marriage I didn't expect from them.

( not if it's potentially happened before, not if other demons also did it. it could be a game for others watching )
I assume they'll link it. Perhaps with our sins.

[Neal turns to her with a small smile.]
Let's just play along for now. We could always get divorced later?
[Oh, ho, ho. Little does he know.]
